It is no secret that Christian Knappmann wants to play professional football. The Mintard coach has emphasised this several times. Now a job with a professional club could be in store for him.
With seven points from three games, Blau-Weiß Mintard has made an almost perfect start to the 2022/2023 Landesliga season. Coach Christian Knappmann has formed a strong team and is aiming for the top division with his charges.
It is quite possible that he himself will soon be working in the regional league. According to the “Wuppertaler Rundschau”, the 41-year-old could soon be supporting WSV marketing manager Daniel Grebe. Knappmann is said to be a candidate for the management of the WSV office. The former WSV striker, who was also the regional league top scorer in the red and blue jersey, did not want to comment on the rumours surrounding him to RevierSport. But RevierSport also knows that Knappmann was present at Hubertusallee last week to “look over Grebe’s shoulder”.
In any case, Knappmann has very good memories of his WSV time, which went from 2011 to 2013. He scored 42 goals in 55 competitive games for the red and blue team before moving to Borussia Dortmund II. During his time in Wuppertal, Knappmann always maintained a special and good relationship with WSV boss and patron Friedhelm Runge. This good relationship still exists today. It remains to be seen whether Runge will bring “Knappi”, who is popular in Wuppertal, back to the Bergisches Land.
Knappmann has worked as a player-coach for TSV Havelse and as a scout for the former third-division team Türkgücü München. As a coach, he previously worked for Westfalia Herne and since then for the Mülheim Landesliga club Blau-Weiß Mintard. However, there is no need to worry in Mülheim because, according to RevierSport information, Knappmann could combine his job at Wuppertaler SV with his coaching position in Mülheim-Mintard. Because: Knappmann’s primary goal this season is: promotion to the Oberliga Niederrhein.
