It has been certain since December that Dawid Kownacki will leave Fortuna Düsseldorf. However, there are numerous rumours that this could also happen immediately.
On 1 December the news bombshell burst: Dawid Kownacki will leave Fortuna Düsseldorf at the end of the season. The Polish attacker had informed the second-division club that he did not want to extend his contract, which expires at the end of the season.
So it is clear that the rumour mill is boiling over, making an immediate departure a possibility. Several Bundesliga clubs are said to be interested in the 25-year-old, and on Monday morning speculation was still rife that Danish first division club FC Midtylland wanted to bring in Kownacki. Fortuna officials have now rejected an immediate transfer.
“Dawid will not be transferred. We have consulted intensively at all levels and decided that we will not transfer Dawid,” explained Sporting Director Klaus Allofs on the Düsseldorf homepage. “Transfer income is always good, but we also have to think about the current season. Dawid staying with us is a clear signal to our entire environment. We have the goal of moving up and attacking, and that would have become much more difficult with Dawid’s departure. Dawid is absolutely fine with this decision and is behaving in an exemplary manner.”
This was underlined by his performance last Friday. Coach Daniel Thioune’s eleven defeated 1. FC Magdeburg 3:2, Kownacki scored a brace, but also missed a penalty, which he had brought out himself. Kownacki will nevertheless be missing on Friday evening in the away match at SC Paderborn: He saw his fifth yellow card against Magdeburg.
This does not mean, however, that something else will not happen: Nana Ampomah’s contract is still to be terminated, the loan deal with Kwadwo Baah could be ended. In addition, sporting director Christian Weber does not rule out that something will happen on the entry side: “As far as other possible transfers are concerned, it is currently quiet.
