Moritz-Broni Kwarteng will miss VfL Bochum for the time being. He will have to serve a red card suspension in the coming weeks.
Moritz-Broni Kwarteng is not yet doing well at VfL Bochum. And that won’t change in the coming weeks.
The 25-year-old attacking player will have to watch from the stands in the next three matches. Following his red card in the defeat against RB Leipzig at the weekend (1:4), the sports court of the German Football Association (DFB) has suspended Kwarteng for three games.
The Bochum summer signing had straddled opponent Lois Openda from behind in the closing stages with no chance of getting the ball. The DFB deemed this frustrating foul to be an “assault against the opponent in a minor case”.
Kwarteng will therefore have to take a forced break against SC Freiburg, FSV Mainz 05 and Darmstadt 98. This means that the Stuttgart-born player is once again set back. After moving from 1. FC Magdeburg, he experienced a difficult first year in the Bundesliga. Kwarteng was initially out for weeks before making his debut in the starting eleven in November
Kwarteng has only made eleven appearances over just 267 minutes, contributing a single goal (an assist in the 3-1 win against VfL Wolfsburg). His headless action against Leipzig certainly didn’t win him any points with coach Thomas Letsch. In fact, Kwarteng will probably have to continue to line up at the back.
The red card against the attacker was the first dismissal for a Bochum player this season. VfL top the Bundesliga’s list of yellow cards. Coach Thomas Letsch’s team have already received 74 cautions, mainly due to their intense style of play. The coach has already had to do without eight suspended players.
Christopher Antwi-Adjei will have to watch out in the upcoming home game against Freiburg (Sunday, 3.30pm, RS live ticker) – provided he is fit to play again after his injury. The attacker currently has four cautions
