Lack of funds – this is how much has been raised so far through various campaigns

FSV Zwickau is fighting for its financial survival. There have already been several campaigns that have raised a six-figure sum.

The financial problems of FSV Zwickau, relegated to the third division, are well known. In the last few months, the club has had to deal with a lot, not only a fine for throwing a beer mug at Rot-Weiss Essen, after which the match was abandoned and scored for RWE.

After years in the 3rd division, the club had to move up to the regional league and now has a gap to fill, which according to the Bild newspaper is around 700,000 euros.

Therefore, there was a large crowdfunding campaign by the FSV Zwickau supporters’ association, which is still running. It is currently on the verge of exceeding the 200,000 euro mark. The goal of the campaign, in which Rot-Weiss Essen also donated, is 250,000 euros.

In addition, there was the “saviour game” against Dynamo Dresden on Saturday. The Dresden team played and left the proceeds entirely to FSV. After all, 5979 spectators came to the duel, which went 3:0 to Dresden.

Dynamo coach Markus Anfang summed it up afterwards: “You have to find solutions against deep opponents. You have to stay patient and still play to zero at the back. It was important to have another building block like that in the preparation.”

But more important was the income for Zwickau, FSV managing director Marvin Klotzkowsky was satisfied. He emphasised to Tag24.de: “It’s holiday time in Saxony, so 6000 spectators are terrific. More came than expected.”

He added: “But in addition to such campaigns, we need other donors and sponsors who give something. At the end of the day, the money has to end up in a pot that can be used to cut the debt. We have many appointments, talks are ongoing. But there is nothing where we can say that it will be ready to talk next week. It’s a process that will drag on for many weeks and months.”

Through the crowdfunding campaign, season tickets and the saviour game, more than 300,000 euros are said to already be in place, yet the road to salvation is far from over.
