Large parts of the team at the U21 international match – Obuz the teenagers’ favorite

Parts of the RWE team were also present at the U21 international match between Germany and Poland on Tuesday evening at the Hafenstrasse stadium.

The German U21 national team took a big step towards Euro 2025 by beating Poland 3:1 after falling behind in the top match.

8655 spectators made the pilgrimage to the stadium on Essen’s Hafenstrasse to watch and support the young German team against Poland. Among the spectators were many prominent faces from the Ruhr Valley clubs. For example, Thomas Letsch, coach of Bundesliga club VfL Bochum, watched the match from the main stand of the Essen stadium.

Several managers and players from third division club Rot-Weiss Essen were also present. In addition to coach Christoph Dabrowski, who watched the game alongside his buddy from the joint soccer coaching course, Ismail Atalan, many RWE professionals were also observers of the U21 European Championship qualifying match.

Red-White players such as Moussa Doumbouya, Eric Voufack, Leonardo Vonic, Felix Wienand, Fabian Rüth and Ole Springer watched the game. And Essen’s shooting star Marvin Obuz was also one of the spectators.

Obuz shouts at the U21 international match in Essen

The 21-year-old, who played for all the German junior national teams from the U16s to the U20s, was delighted to see so many fans. At half-time, Obuz was a man in demand. Shouts of “Obuz, Obuz” rang out from the stands when the Essen winger was recognized. The player on loan from 1. FC Köln was happy to make himself available to the children and teenagers for autographs and photos. It was obvious that the RWE player is enjoying the popularity he has gained in recent weeks.

Obuz, who still has a contract with 1. FC Köln until June 30, 2025, has scored three times in the last three games. In total, the winger has made 15 league appearances (four goals, three assists) for Dabrowski’s team. He does not yet know whether he will remain in Essen beyond the summer.

As neither Cologne nor Essen know exactly which league they will be competing in next season, Obuz is keeping his head down and recently told Forecasting about his future: “Every footballer always wants to take the right next step. We’ll decide what that will be in the future. Right now, all that matters is the moment and I want to continue to develop here in Essen. “
