Last-minute shock for Frohnhausen, FC Kray achieves a respectable win

Once again, the ball rolled in the Landesliga during the week. Three Essen clubs scored points, while VfB Frohnhausen suffered a bitter defeat.

The English week in the Landesliga Niederrhein Group 2 kicked off on Tuesday with the clash between SGE Bedburg-Hau and SV Biemenhorst. The visitors won 2-0 in front of 140 spectators, a good result for the relegation candidates from Essen, as Bedburg-Hau is a direct competitor in the battle to stay in the league.

The action continued on Wednesday with four interesting games from Essen’s point of view. VfB Frohnhausen, FC Kray, SG Schönebeck and ESC Rellinghausen were in action.

VfB Frohnhausen had a really bitter evening: The “Lions” surprisingly led at leaders Sportfreunde Niederwenigern until the 88th minute and then had to go home empty-handed. Sergej Stahl (88.,90.+4) turned Mario Codreanu’s (17.) Frohnhausen lead around with a brace. The relegation-threatened visitors had fought bravely but lost 2:1.

The matchday went better for FC Kray. Interim coach Adrian Schneider’s side fought out a goalless 0-0 draw at second-placed BW Dingden. It was a result that the 32-year-old could live with:

In terms of chances, we deserved to win a bit more. Nevertheless, in our current situation, we have to be satisfied with the point against the second-placed team. But we also have to work on our chance conversion.

“Dingden waited for us to make mistakes and we had a lot of possession in the first half. In terms of chances, we deserved to win a little more. Nevertheless, in our current situation, we must of course be satisfied with the point against the second-placed team. But we also have to work on our chance conversion.”

SG Schönebeck also secured an important point in the relegation battle against Arminia Klosterhardt, drawing 1-1. Mahde Kaeede scored in stoppage time to bring the game to a close after Burak Yildiz (47) had put the visitors ahead.

“The game was very intense and characterized by many duels. The second half started with a goal for the opponents, but my team reacted well and played almost furiously going forward. The goal only came in stoppage time, after a great fight and a lot of effort. We are delighted with the point,” summed up SGS coach Olaf Rehmann.

Wednesday evening went really well for ESC Rellinghausen. The Essen club won 2-0 at third-bottom FSV Duisburg thanks to goals from top scorer Berkan Eken (30′) and Edisher Ugrekhelidze (74′) and climbed to fifth place in the table. SV Budberg recorded the biggest win of the matchday against relegated SV Hönnepel-Niedermörmter. The game ended 5:0 with a four-goal haul from Moritz Paul. BW Mintard and 1. FC Lintfort also drew 2:2
