On the first day of the indoor city championship in Mülheim, one of last year’s finalists had to pull out of the tournament.
The indoor city championship in Mülheim is open. In front of several hundred spectators in the Westenergie-Sporthalle on Friday evening (December 29), Group A played out the first three finalists.
In addition to the favored regional league teams Blau-Weiß Mintard and VfB Speldorf, Croatia Mülheim (Kreisliga A) also made it to the final round. This will be held on January 6, 2024.
For A-league side Fatihspor Mülheim, however, the journey is over much earlier this year than in the last edition. The club had made it to the final and lost out to 1. FC Styrum, but now the tournament is over after day one, as is the case for TSV Heimaterde.
Mintard in particular struggled and had to tremble a little until the last game; a draw would not have been enough against Heimaterde. However, the 4:1 victory against the bottom team with no points secured Mintard’s ticket to the final round with six points in the long-distance duel with Fatihspor (5 points), despite two defeats. In the direct duel beforehand, Fatihspor had been sent off twice in a 3-1 defeat.
At the top of the group, first place was still at stake in the last match of the day, with Croatia and VfB Speldorf both already through. The regional league team were crowned group winners with a narrow 2:1 victory.
On Saturday (December 30, starting at 2 p.m.), the remaining places in the final round in January will be decided in groups B and C. Last year’s winners 1. FC Styrum will be joined in the tournament by Oberliga side Mülheimer FC.
Groups B and C:
Group B: Mülheimer FC 97 (Oberliga Niederrhein), Mülheimer SV 07, SV Rot-Weiss Mülheim (both Bezirksliga), SV Raadt (Kreisliga A), TuS Union 09 Mülheim (Kreisliga B).
Group C: 1. FC Styrum (Bezirksliga), TuSpo Saarn, SV Heißen (both Kreisliga A), Dümptener TV (Kreisliga B)
