In the U17 Bundesliga West, Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund and Schalke 04 celebrated victories. It remains exciting at the top.
The race for the two qualifying places for the final round of the German Championship remains unchanged after the 21st matchday in the U17 Bundesliga West.
In the three-way battle at the top of the table, both leaders Bayer Leverkusen and rivals Borussia Dortmund and FC Schalke 04 were victorious. Leverkusen’s lead over BVB remains at two points and S04 at three points.
Schalke’s victory came late in the game at Rot-Weiß Oberhausen. Silas Thier had given them the lead shortly before the break (45′). However, Sergio Terranova equalized in the closing stages (79′). RWO were already hoping to secure a point against the Royal Blues, but they struck back once again through Vincent Carus (88′) and ultimately prevailed 2:1.
Meanwhile, BVB celebrated a 2-0 win against Fortuna Düsseldorf on Sunday. Thierry Fidjeu-Tazemeta (32) and Nick Cherny (44) ensured that the final score was already on the scoreboard before half-time. Düsseldorf conceded a sending-off in the closing stages (83rd/yellow-red)
Leverkusen won 4:0 at MSV Duisburg. Artem Stepanov (22, 37) scored a brace in the first half. Kerim-Sam Alajbegovic (81) and Julien Kurowski (87) added to their tally in the final minutes.
Meanwhile, Rot-Weiss Essen suffered their fifth defeat in a row. The RWE talents lost 2:3 at Borussia Mönchengladbach – although the game had started promisingly for the Bergeborbecker.
Sercan Calik (21) gave them the lead. However, Josiah Uwakhonye made it 1:1 for Gladbach (38′), who turned the game around with a goal from Can Güner (66′). Güner was also the one to make the hosts celebrate in the third minute of stoppage time. He scored the 3:2 after Mats Pressler had equalized for RWE in the meantime (75′).
VfL Bochum celebrated a narrow victory at lunchtime. David Siebers’ team prevailed 1:0 after a goal from Lumiere Santo (17.)
