Former Schalke sporting director Rouven Schröder is on the verge of a move to RB Leipzig. Max Eberl confirmed this before the match at BVB.
Sporting director Rouven Schröder’s move to RB Leipzig is close to being finalised. This had already been confirmed by his former club FC Schalke 04 in the person of board member Peter Knäbel the previous week. Leipzig’s sporting director Max Eberl also announced before the Bundesliga top game at Borussia Dortmund (click here for the live ticker) that only details remained to be clarified and that the 47-year-old would start work at RB as soon as possible.
The former Gladbach manager enthused about the former Schalke player in an interview with streaming provider DAZN: “If everything works out as it looks like it will, we will get a great reinforcement,” said Eberl.
Schröder had done an “excellent job” at his former clubs. He particularly appreciates Schröder’s skill in transferring players. “Rouven is doing a great job in the area of scouting. We are getting an absolute expert who has shown a very good eye for new players,” emphasised the former manager of Borussia Mönchengladbach.
Schalke: RB Leipzig to pay transfer fee for Schröder
According to information from this editorial team, RB Leipzig will pay a transfer fee of 500,000 euros to FC Schalke 04, where Schröder was still under contract until 2024. In addition, the Schalke club will save the salary of their former sporting director.
Max Eberl and Rouven Schröder have had a close friendship for many years. It was also Eberl who wanted to convey Schröder to Borussia Mönchengladbach as his own successor – but the transfer did not come about in January 2022. Now the two work together.
