Despite taking the lead three times, the Saxons were defeated 4-3 (2-1) on match day 11 at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, who have a new coach, Christian Ilzer.
Defending champion Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund maintained their positions in the top flight. The Werkself are in fourth place with 20 points after a 5-2 (2-2) win against 1. FC Heidenheim.
With one point less, BVB, who beat SC Freiburg 4-0 (2-0), follow in fifth place.
VfL Bochum, still without a win and bottom of the table, suffered their ninth defeat of the season with a 2-0 (0-0) loss at VfB Stuttgart. VfL Wolfsburg won the midfield duel against 1. FC Union Berlin 1-0 (0-0).
Frankfurt in second place after beating Bremen
Eintracht Frankfurt is now the first pursuer of Bundesliga leaders FC Bayern Munich. The Hessians won 1-0 (1-0) at home against Werder Bremen and climbed past RB Leipzig to second place in the table. The gap to Bayern is six points.
Former world champion Mario Götze scored the 1-0 in his 100th competitive game for Eintracht (45th minute). Frankfurt coach Dino Toppmöller was able to celebrate three points on his 44th birthday.
During the game, there was a medical emergency. The person concerned was taken away at the end of the first half and “seems to be stable so far,” Eintracht announced on the X platform during the second half.
