“Let’s not beat around the bush” – Promotion is the goal

Westfalia Dortmund is gearing up to play in the Bezirksliga next season. To achieve this, the team aims to continue its winning streak.

15 games, 14 wins, one draw. They’ve scored 103 goals and conceded just six. Those are Westfalia Dortmund’s impressive numbers. The club, currently competing in Kreisliga A, makes no secret of its ambitions. Coach Maurice Temme is also happy to emphasize this once again.

Maurice Temme, how do you assess the first half of the season?

Basically, we went into the season with the goal and plan of getting promoted. That was also the case last season. This time, we’ve managed quite well to secure the maximum points, with the exception of one draw. We’re naturally satisfied with that. We’ve improved significantly in terms of our play, and we’ve become more clinical in front of goal. We’ve also already picked up three points in our first match of the second half of the season. We now have eleven or twelve games left and a seven-point lead. Everything is going according to plan.

What has been the highlight for you so far?

Apart from the 2-0 win against Barop, we haven’t really had any close results. The 2-2 draw against Huckarde was definitely the highlight. The fact that we went down to ten men after 15 minutes in this top-of-the-table clash and still played good soccer, only to concede the equalizer at the final whistle. If we’d won that one too, it would certainly have been the icing on the cake.

And what was the biggest negative experience?

Knock on wood—no one got seriously injured. You could say we really would have liked to win the cup match against Westrich. Unfortunately, we didn’t, perhaps partly because of the two red cards we received there.

Will there be changes to the roster during the winter break?

Given that we’re heading toward the Bezirksliga, a few players have already put themselves forward. We’re keeping our eyes open and looking around to see who might fit into the team. But we’re not in a must-sign situation. The player also has to be a great fit for the team in terms of character. Those were the difficulties we faced last season. We’re paying even closer attention to that with upcoming transfers and with the ones we’ve made so far. We’ve now signed two players, Bilal Tekin and Jonas Pöhlker, who are very, very young. They’re expanding the squad and both have the potential to become regulars.

What is your goal for the rest of the season?

We definitely want to secure promotion. There’s no need to beat around the bush. Anything else I’d say would be nonsense. Promotion has been our goal from day one.
