Leverkusen defeat one of the ten heaviest ever – Schalke twice in the list

Bayer 04 Leverkusen suffered a 7-2 defeat in the Champions League – one of the heaviest defeats ever for a German team. Schalke is in the “top 10” twice.

Tuesday’s 7-2 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League was not only historic for Bayer 04 Leverkusen.

With the ninth-highest defeat in the club’s history, the Werkself joined the “top ten” of the highest defeats suffered by German clubs in the premier class. Again. Because Leverkusen are already represented there three times.

At the end of November 2013, under coach Sami Hyypiä, there was a 5-0 home defeat in the preliminary round against Manchester United. A year and a half earlier, there was an even greater humiliation: in the round of 16 second leg, Bayer 04 went down 7-1 at Camp Nou – Lionel Messi scored five times. The 1-3 defeat in the first leg sealed their fate. Schalke twice in the top 10 of Germany’s biggest Champions League defeats FC Schalke is also represented in this inglorious top ten, twice in fact. In November 2014, the Royal Blues, under Roberto di Matteo, lost 5-0 to Chelsea FC in the preliminary round. Schalke’s run came to an end in the round of 16 against Real Madrid.
