Contract extension at Borussia Dortmund: Jamie Bynoe-Gittens has signed for the long term and now wants to hit the ground running.
Jamie Bynoe-Gittens has signed a new contract with Borussia Dortmund. The 19-year-old winger extended early until 2028, the German vice-champion announced on Monday afternoon.
Three years ago, the England U21 international moved to the Ruhr region from Manchester City’s youth team. At BVB, he initially played for the U19 team. Since last season, he has been a permanent member of the professional squad.
“Jamie is a promise for the future,” said sporting director Sebastian Kehl in a club statement on the extension. “A winger who brings tremendous pace, constantly looks for one-on-one situations, solves them with his technical quality, can create scoring opportunities for teammates or finish himself.”
Bynoe-Gittens has played 27 games for BVB so far (three goals, one assist) – mostly as a wild card. “We are convinced that his development is far from complete,” believes Kehl, according to whom several top European clubs were interested in Bynoe-Gittens.
In recent months, the youngster’s career had stalled somewhat. He dropped out several times in the preseason due to shoulder injuries, and Bynoe-Gittens missed 35 competitive games. In the meantime, the offensive player is fit again. In the 1:0 against VfL Wolfsburg a week ago, he celebrated his comeback in the starting eleven.
“Even in the somewhat more difficult phases for me in recent months due to injury, I have always felt the faith and trust of the club. I feel incredibly comfortable in this team, in this city, in this stadium,” he explained.
BVB has always been his first port of call, Bynoe-Gittens continues, “because it has shown over many years that it gives young players service time at the highest level if they convince through performance. I wish that I can take the next step together with my club and I want to help my team by scoring goals, providing assists and working hard on the pitch. “
