VfL Bochum is enjoying great popularity. All records are being broken in jersey sales. A special jersey for the anniversary is to come.
VfL Bochum are champions! At least as far as the jerseys are concerned. The sports magazine “Kicker” has chosen the most beautiful home jersey in the Bundesliga in a survey and, as in the previous year, the Bochum blue is in first place. Nevertheless, fewer jerseys were ordered this season.
And this despite the fact that all records were broken last season. 25500 jerseys were sold, more than ever before. For the 2023/24 season, however, only 19000 were ordered. The reason is simple.
“The order went out after the first five match days,” revealed marketing director Tim Jost in a media interview. At the time, Bochum had zero points and were in the midst of the worst start to a season in the club’s history.
“19000 would have been a record for the 2nd Bundesliga.” Everyone at VfL is glad that it didn’t come to that. With the club staying in the league, new orders have already been placed. The new jersey is also very popular with the Bochum supporters.
VfL Bochum: Losilla number one, anniversary jersey planned
Those responsible at VfL are observing a new trend. While in previous years flocking with one’s own name was most popular, last season jerseys with players’ names prevailed for the first time.
“This shows the increased identification,” says Jost. “Especially with players who have been with the club for a long time.” Sales hit number one, for example, was the jersey of captain Anthony Losilla – followed by Takuma Asano and Simon Zoller.
The rush for the special jersey in rainbow design last year was also immense: sold out within one day. Those who didn’t get one can try again in September for another special jersey.
Bochum is planning an anniversary jersey for the 175th anniversary of the club in September. In addition to numerous events around the Ruhrstadion, there will also be celebrations on the pitch, so to speak.
