On Thursday, the ball was rolling in amateur soccer – also in the Oberliga Westfalen. There is a new league leader.
The 25th matchday of the Oberliga Westfalen was completely overshadowed by the top match between Sportfreunde Lotte and ASC Dortmund.
Spectators were treated to a thrilling clash between the two promotion contenders, with Lotte coming out on top. The former third-division side turned around an early 1-0 deficit and held on for a 2-1 victory in front of 1448 fans. As a result, Sportfreunde regained first place and still have a game in hand.
In addition to the top match, other top teams were also in action: Türkspor Dortmund were guests at relegation candidates Victoria Clarholz, Spvgg. Erkenschwick traveled to the in-form Sportfreunde from Siegen and SV Schermbeck met SpVgg Vreden at home.
Only Türkspor Dortmund had reason to celebrate. They defended third place in the table with a 4-2 away win and remain right at the top. Schermbeck suffered a bitter defeat against Vreden.
Despite taking the lead twice and former RWE striker Marcel Platzek scoring his tenth goal of the season, SVS conceded their fourth defeat in a row against Vreden, losing 3:2 thanks to a last-minute goal. They are now six points behind first place. The match between Siegen and Erkenschwick ended in a 2:2 draw. It was the only draw of the evening.
TuS Bövinghausen celebrated an important victory. After eight defeats in a row, the ambitious Dortmund Oberliga club defeated direct rivals Eintracht Rheine 3-2.
There were also two other away wins. Finnentrop/Bamenohl celebrated a 3:2 victory at TuS Ennepetal and 1. FC Gievenbeck did not show any weakness at Westfalia Rhynern – the fifth-placed team in the table won 4:1.
