Rot-Weiss Essen won the “schauinsland reisen Cup” in Gummersbach last Sunday. RWE attacker Luca Wollschläger was in the best scoring mood.
Last Sunday, third division team Rot-Weiss Essen won the “schauinsland reisen Cup” in Gummersbach’s SCHWALBE Arena. RWE won three games in four and the players deserved to hold the cup in their hands afterwards. Luca Wollschläger played a major role in the tournament victory and was in a great scoring mood.
The player on loan from Hertha BSC scored a total of five goals during the tournament and, together with Gianluca Przondziono from Blau-Weiß Lohne, was named the tournament’s top scorer after the event.
In the final against BW Lohne, Wollschläger scored twice. In the 8:3 victory in the final, Wollschläger scored the important and early 1:0 in the 3rd minute and increased the score in the further course of the game to 5:1 in the meantime. All information on the games from the tournament can be found here.
In the 3rd league, however, the talent is still waiting for his first goal of the season. On 14 January (2 p.m.), RWE will continue in league play. Then Hallesche FC will be our guests at Hafenstraße in Essen. Perhaps the Hallenspektakel was just the right thing for the young attacker to have arrived in Essen.
RWE fans provide good atmosphere
During the tournament in Gummersbach, the Essen fans who travelled to the tournament were particularly responsible for the atmosphere in the SCHWALBE Arena. The RWE supporters in the stands went full throttle at every game of their team and loudly whipped their team to the title.
But the fans of Podolski’s club and Polish first division team Górnik Zabrze were also no children of sadness during the event and celebrated a veritable party in the stands. Former Germany international Lukas Podolski scored three goals for his team during the tournament.
RWE coach Christoph Dabrowski also praised the commitment of the Essen players who had travelled with the team and thanked the RWE fans for their great support after the Cup. The players from Rot-Weiss Essen also raved about the atmosphere in Gummersbach.
“It was a lot of fun to gain match practice again in the hall. Overall, it was a very nice tournament and our fans gave everything, they really whipped us forward in every game,” said RWE player Erolind Krasniqi, for example, after winning the competition.
