Mael Corboz is leaving SC Verl – with immediate effect. Verl and the former SCV captain’s host club have officially confirmed the transfer.
On Tuesday evening (January 9), Forecasting exclusively reported that Mael Corboz’s transfer from SC Verl to Arminia Bielefeld would be announced on Wednesday (January 10). And so it happened.
At 12 noon sharp, the third division clubs published their press releases.
“Mael’s decision surprised and disappointed us. He was an important part of our team and contributed significantly to the team dynamic. However, we are looking to the future with confidence and are determined to find a strong solution to continue the team’s success,” said Sebastian Lange, SC Verl’s Head of Sport, explaining the captain’s departure. The fact that the 29-year-old is leaving the club in the winter transfer window after three years at Poststrasse naturally hurts those responsible at Verl. Even the transfer fee of around 100,000 euros, which according to RS information will flow from Bielefeld to Verl, cannot make the Sportclub managers happy.
“This development was also surprising for me. Mael has fitted into our team perfectly, both as a person and as an athlete. But in the soccer business, there are sometimes tough and unexpected decisions. Our focus is now on compensating for the loss and strengthening the team accordingly,” added Raimund Bertels, sporting director of the team in sixth place in the 3rd division.
Of course, the mood at Verler’s East Westphalia rivals in Bielefeld is different with this transfer.
Arminia successfully courted the services of the central midfielder, who has scored five goals and set up three others in 20 appearances this season, and are therefore looking forward to the reinforcement from Verl.
“It has always been our policy that winter transfers only make sense if we can immediately increase the quality of our squad. We’ve achieved that with the transfer of Mael, who was one of the best outfield players in the league in the first half of the season. We are absolutely convinced of him as a player and as a personality on and off the pitch. We see him as an important building block for our team, both in the short term and in the long term, and are delighted that we have been able to sign Mael and that he will be wearing the Arminia Bielefeld jersey from today,” explained Bielefeld’s sporting director Michael Mutzel and head coach Mitch Kniat.
