At 1. FC Bocholt, the position of coach doesn’t seem to have a long dwell time. The club will have to look for a new coach again for the new season.
Marcus John will step down as sporting director and coach at regional league club 1. FC Bocholt after the end of the season.
“The current season has cost me a lot of energy and on effort. The great distance goes hand in hand with a very high time commitment, especially in my dual function. Here, the compatibility of family and career is simply no longer a given for me,” said John, who lives in Mönchengladbach, explaining his decision.
He had sought talks with FC President Ludger Triphaus last weekend. “But all FC fans can rest assured that I will be one hundred per cent at full throttle until the last match day. Together we will achieve our season goal of staying in the league and we also have plans for the cup,” John emphasises.
Ludger Triphaus: “Marcus did an excellent job at 1. FC Bocholt and stepped in as our coach twice in the most dire need. We are very grateful to him for what he has done and can understand his motives. We will now search for a suitable successor for the position of head coach with the necessary calm and diligence, who fits our club and our ambitions. Christopher Schorch will take charge of the squad planning for the new season with immediate effect and will conduct talks with the current squad as well as potential new arrivals. Christopher will play a significant role in the further development of the club. “
The 48-year-old John became sporting director at Bocholt’s Hünting in April 2022, where promotion to the Regionalliga West was celebrated at the end of the 2021/2022 season. After only three matchdays, he took over the coaching post from Jan Winking on an interim basis and worked in a dual capacity for 1. FC Bocholt until December. After the cooperation with coach Sven Schuchardt ended at short notice, he has held both positions again since January. The search for a John successor has already begun at the Hünting.
