New market values for VfL Bochum: The dispute between former goalkeeper Manuel Riemann and the club has drastic consequences, with one player seeing his value rise significantly.
The dispute between VfL Bochum and its suspended goalkeeper Manuel Riemann has consequences for the new market values of the Bundesliga’s bottom club: because the relegation-threatened club from Castroper Straße and the former fan favorite have more to do with each other in the labor court than on the soccer field.
Riemann is currently not allowed to participate in training with coach Peter Zeidler’s team, instead keeping fit on his own and not playing at all. As a result, his market value has halved. In percentage terms, this is the biggest loss in VfL Bochum’s squad value: The portal transfermarkt.de has now updated its Bundesliga rankings after the players were last evaluated in May after the end of the season and the relegation play-offs.
For former goalkeeper Manuel Riemann, his market value has fallen by half from €600,000 to €300,000. This makes him the biggest loser in percentage terms in the VfL Bochum team, although two other players have also lost value. Transfermarkt.de now values Erhan Masovic (25) at €4 million (previously €5 million) and Gerrit Holtmann (29) at €700,000 (previously €1 million).
Riemann has been released from professional training since mid-May, but has not been suspended. He is suing the Bochum labor court to be allowed to return to professional training. VfL Bochum accuses him of “verbal and almost physical misconduct,” according to the unsuccessful conciliation hearing before the labor court on August 23.
Market values at VfL Bochum: Four winners despite a weak start to the season
There are some curious developments on the side of those who have seen their market value increase. Bochum defender Bernardo is now valued at €7 million by transfermarkt.de, an increase of €1.5 million. However, the Brazilian has not yet played a Bundesliga game for VfL this season. The 29-year-old has been hampered by meniscus problems in his left knee for months.
Bernardo is one of four VfL Bochum players who have increased their market value despite the weak start to the Bundesliga season. Felix Passlack (26) made a jump from €1.8 million to €2.5 million. Riemann’s successor in goal, Patrick Drewes, has been valued at €1 million, up from €600,000. Midfield talent Mats Pannewig has even increased his market value from €125,000 to €600,000.
