Regionalliga West leaders Preußen Münster won at home against Fortuna Köln in their first game after promotion to the 3. Liga. Cologne II won against Straelen.
Prussia Münster – Fortuna Cologne 1:3 (1:2)
Were the celebrations after last week’s successful promotion to the 3rd league still in the bones of the eagle-bearers?
In any case, it was Fortuna Cologne that started the game in high spirits. And this despite the fact that the guests were stuck in traffic, so that kickoff was delayed by 30 minutes.
The main focus was on Sascha Marquet. First the striker hit the inside post (7th), then he forced Tom Müller into a flying save (12th) before finally scoring the almost overdue 1:0 in the 13th minute. Lars Lokotsch had asserted himself strongly and crossed directly before the goal, Marquet had only to push in.
The lead did not last long. Just five minutes later, Yassine Bouchama went down in the penalty area. The referee pointed to the spot under protest from Cologne – Andrew Wooten converted (18.).
The somewhat fortunate equalizer brought Preußen Münster back into the game, but the newly promoted team was not really consistent on either side. And so it was Fortuna Köln who restored the lead with a header from Timo Hölscher – of course Marquet had hit the cross.
Marquet strikes in Preußen Münster’s pressing phase
Preußen Münster came out of the dressing room better and shifted the game into the visitors’ half. Nicolai Remberg had the best chance to equalize after an assist from Gerrit Wegkamp, but shot well over the goal from seven meters (59.).
Sascha Hildmann’s team continued to press, but the goal came from the other side. After a beautiful chip ball to the top, Marquet once again got through and finished with a bit of luck to make it 3:1, Müller was still on it (69th).
There wasn’t much to see from Preußen Münster’s team in the aftermath, but from the fans all the more, who celebrated the fact that promotion had been secured despite the first defeat in 16 games.
1. FC Köln II – SV Straelen 2:0 (0:0)
In the second match of the Regionalliga West on Friday evening, 1. FC Köln II prevailed against SV Straelen, who were bottom of the table.
The guests held out well for a long time, but in the second half the Cathedral City side finally found a way through. Tim Lemperle scored on Joshua Schwirten’s pass to make it 1-0 (52nd) and Maximilian Schmidt made it 2-0 just nine minutes later (61st).
For the Cologne team, these are three very important points in the fight against relegation, while Straelen remains last in the league.
