Match abandoned, police intervention, reports – Chaot breaks RWE II player’s nose

Rot-Weiss Essen II traveled the few kilometers from Bergeborbeck to Dellwig on Sunday. The match against home side DJK 1910 was to be abandoned at the end.

Twelve games, twelve wins, 101:11 goals: Rot-Weiss Essen II are running lonely circles in the Kreisliga B. The RWE reserve team is actually already the designated promoted team in the A class.

But last Sunday (November 12, 2023), there were no sporting headlines this time in the game of the second team of the third division third-placed team. With the score at 1:1 – after goals from Marcel Rosbach (9′) for RWE and Marcel Nawroth (70′) for DJK Dellwig 1910 – the match was abandoned.

Nobody wants to see what the official 60 spectators at Scheppmannskamp saw. After Nawroth’s equalizer, a DJK cheering crowd formed at the corner flag. Meanwhile, around 50 meters further on, at the RWE substitutes’ bench, a scuffle broke out.

Four spectators, who were later identified as friends and family members of a Dellwig player, attacked Red & White player Burak Bahdir after a verbal altercation. The latter even suffered a broken nose. RWE called the police and they arrested the four hooligans

It’s just sad and I’m actually tired of commenting on things like this. These people simply don’t belong at any sports facility. There’s nothing you can do as a player or official and you end up bearing the damage for it

The result: The four perpetrators will receive mail from the public prosecutor’s office. The victim reported the perpetrators. Frank Kurth, team manager of the second team of Rot-Weiss Essen, did not want to make a statement to Forecasting and referred to a “pending investigation”.

Meanwhile, Pascal Doll, in his eighth year as DJK chairman, was happy to comment to our editorial team: “Unfortunately, you can’t prevent something like this from happening. We can’t take responsibility for every spectator. These people were immediately banned from DJK Dellwig 1910. We don’t want to see them at our home and away games. We have also made this clear to our player, who is a friend and relative of the perpetrators.”

Doll continued: “It’s just sad and I’m actually tired of commenting on things like this. These people simply don’t belong at any sports facility. There’s nothing you can do as a player or official and you end up bearing the damage.”

Referee Dirk Orlowski called the captains and coaches to him. Doll: “The captains of both teams wanted to play on. But the RWE officials did not want the game to continue and no longer felt safe on the pitch, even though the four culprits were taken away by the police. What a pity. I find that sad. The game could have been brought to a sporting conclusion.”

It remains to be seen who will receive the points or whether there will be a replay. “In the end, it almost doesn’t matter. Because RWE II will be promoted anyway and we won’t be relegated. I would still have liked to see us be the first team to stain the pristine white vest of this 40,000-euro Kreisliga B squad from the Red & Whites after 90 minutes,” said Doll, who is a die-hard Red & White Essen fan himself.
