Mathias Lierhaus on team outings – “Mintard times were really cool”

Mathias Lierhaus celebrated his greatest successes in the Blau-Weiß Mintard jersey. He now plays for SuS Haarzopf and answers the Forecasting questionnaire.

Mathias Lierhaus is now 34 years old and once scored goals on an assembly line in the DJK Blau-Weiß Mintard jersey.

After almost 14 years, the striker moved from Mintard to Spielvereinigung Schonnebeck in January 2022. But he was not happy in the Oberliga. After just six months, he moved from Schetters Busch to Föhrenweg to SuS Haarzopf. As in Mintard, Lierhaus works with Marco Guglielmi at the district league club and is happy again.

Mathias Lierhaus answers our forecasting questionnaire.

My greatest strength is… we’re talking about soccer, right (laughs)? Then the scoring instinct.

My biggest weakness is… constant concentration.

When we’re in the dressing room… that’s when it really kicks in!

The best moment of my soccer career was… winning against Steele with Mintard. I think that was in 2019, when we were promoted to the national league in front of 700 spectators.

The best goal of my career was… in that game against Steele. That was the 1:0 in the 70th minute from a direct free-kick. We won 2-0 and I also scored the second goal. That was a great game in front of this impressive crowd.

My best team-mate was… Marco Brings. I had a lot of good teammates, also in Schonnebeck, but I simply get on best with Marco – on and off the pitch.

My best coach was Marco Guglielmi because… we have a lot in common. We’ve been promoted twice and worked together in Mintard and he’s now my coach in Haarzopf too. He just knows what makes me tick.

My worst coach was … I would have an answer ready. But I’m not that mean. I’ll keep that to myself.

When I was a little boy, my role model was… Fredi Bobic and later Mario Gomez. I’m a Stuttgart fan.

I didn’t become a professional footballer because… I had a completely bad attitude. There were always requests from the NLZ and also from the regional league. I also played in the Lower Rhine League throughout my youth years and was in the Lower Rhine team, but I never tried out for an NLZ.

The best thing about the Ruhr region is… the people.

Either, or?

Dortmund or Schalke? VfB Stuttgart.

Beer or water? Beer.

Club or pub? Pub.

Natural or artificial turf? Natural turf.

Fighter or artist? Not both.

Cinema or Netflix? Netflix.

Soccer on TV or in the stadium? Both. If I can make it, then I’ll go to the stadium.

Finally, a few more questions:

Who would you like to have a beer with? I’d like to have a chat with Toni Kroos. I celebrate his “Einfach mal Luppen – Podcast”.

At which club did you experience the most extreme team trip – and why? The Mintarder times were really cool. There were always around 50 of us, including fans, support staff and boys from the second and third teams. The team spirit was unique.

What can you laugh about? I can laugh at jokes.

My best vacation was? Skiing in Austria in 2019.

What is indispensable for you? My family.

What music do you like to listen to and what is playing in the cabin? I really like listening to rap and electro. Both are also on in the cabin.

If you could start again, what would you do differently in your life? I should have taken a different approach to my studies and studied something else. From a sporting point of view, I should have had the courage to try out at a youth performance center
