FC Bayern apparently put out feelers for the manager even before Max Eberl’s exit from Bundesliga rivals RB Leipzig.
According to a report in Sport Bild, Max Eberl’s interest was signaled by the German soccer record champions “well before his Leipzig sacking” last Friday.
And not only that: the Bayern bosses are also said to have filed a request for talks on the subject of Eberl at RB in recent weeks. Whether this conversation actually took place remained open.
Sporting director Eberl had been released by Leipzig because of “lack of commitment”. The 50-year-old is considered the preferred candidate of Bayern and, above all, its honorary chairman Uli Hoeneß for the post of sports director, which has been vacant since the dismissal of Hasan Salihamidzic in May.
A possible appointment would have to be approved by the Supervisory Board in Munich, which includes Hoeneß and is chaired by President Herbert Hainer. Leipzig is reportedly calling for a transfer fee of five million euros for Eberl, whose contract runs until 2026.
