Media revenues: BVB, Schalke and VfL Bochum perform like this

The Kicker has published the DFL’s projected figures for the media revenues of the Bundesliga clubs. This is how the Revierklubs BVB, VfL Bochum and Schalke fared in the rankings.

Finances are an ongoing issue for the district clubs VfL Bochum and FC Schalke 04. Both are considered to be tight and have to turn over every penny when planning their budgets. The financial restrictions are also noticeable in the sporting development. The clubs spend the winter in the relegation places in the Bundesliga. Bochum is second to last, S04 at the bottom.

And also in terms of income from media revenues, both clubs are in the lower half of the table. This is according to a report in the kicker. The magazine has published the target figures of the German Football League (DFL) for the current season. A total of 1.053 billion euros will be distributed to the 18 German first division clubs.

VfL Bochum will receive the smallest share. The club from Castroper Straße comes last in the ranking with 33.3 million euros. Schalke stands at 44.2 million euros and shares 14th place with FC Augsburg.

Borussia Dortmund, meanwhile, can plan on almost double that amount. 80.1 million euros mean second place in the ranking – with a clear gap to record champion FC Bayern (90.2 million euros). BVB is followed by RB Leipzig (78.3 million euros), Bayer Leverkusen (75.5 million euros) and Eintracht Frankfurt (73.5 million euros). The biggest winner is Union Berlin: with strong performances, the team from Köpenick made a leap from 17th to tenth place in their third first division year (54.9 million euros).

The amounts are made up of national and international marketing. In total, less money will be distributed this season than last year (1.189 billion euros). According to Kicker, the final figures may still change slightly.

Four components are taken into account in the distribution of revenue, which are weighted differently: Equal distribution (53 per cent), performance (42 per cent), young talent (three per cent) and interest (two per cent).

For the area of performance, the performance in the past five or ten years is taken into account in addition to the current season. Thus, it is possible that Schalke, as a promoted team, is ahead of VfL Bochum, who already played in the Bundesliga last year.
