Midfielder stays at Hafenstrasse – Rios Alonso too

Rot-Weiss Essen have tied the next player to Hafenstrasse. A midfielder signed a new employment contract.

Thomas Eisfeld will continue to play for Rot-Weiss Essen in the coming season. And not because – as reported by Forecasting – he reached a certain number of playing minutes for a contract extension, but because he received a new offer and signed a new contract.

According to RS information, the 31-year-old midfielder, who has been one of the top earners in the Essen squad to date, has agreed to a reduced salary offer. This was also confirmed by squad planner Marcus Steegmann.

“Thomas has very strong footballing skills, has already secured us several points, for example with the late winning goal in the home game against Münster, and is a very valuable part of our team with his experience on and off the pitch,” said Steegmann, Director of Professional Football at RWE, about the number ten.

Steegmann continued: “Due to his special contract constellation, we have had intensive and very open discussions in recent weeks to talk about his future at Hafenstrasse. You can see that Thommy fully identifies with RWE and feels at home here, not least from the fact that he has come a long way towards us in these talks and we have come together so quickly. We are convinced that we will also have a lot of fun with him in the coming season. “

In the summer of 2021, Eisfeld celebrated promotion to Bundesliga 1 with VfL Bochum, before joining Rot-Weiss Essen six months later. Since then, he has played 64 competitive matches for RWE, scoring a total of eleven goals himself and setting up eight others.

“When I signed, I said that the whole RWE package with its power, tradition and legendary fans was simply incredibly appealing to me – today, two years later, I can only underline this statement. The club has grown very close to my heart, at the same time I still feel fit as a fiddle and I am convinced that I can help the team with my qualities. I’m delighted that we’re continuing our journey together,” said Eisfeld.
