The derby showdown for a place in the Champions League final will take place at Milan’s San Siro Stadium. Inter are the big favourites – but Milan have not given up yet.
Who will advance to the Champions League final? In today’s semi-final second leg, it’s another Milan city duel. Inter Milan welcome their rivals AC Milan.
And Simone Inzaghi’s team are clear favourites for the “Derby della Madonnina” after the 2-0 win in the first leg a week ago – the coach is correspondingly self-confident.
We know that this is one of the most important games in Inter’s history. We know how important the game is and what it will mean for us, for the club and also for the fans,” said Inzaghi. “We will have to prepare for it in the best possible way. We know we have a deserved advantage.”
In total, it will be the 237th Milan derby – so far Inter have celebrated 88 wins, Milan 79. The remaining 69 games ended in a draw. Most recently, Inter have been on top, with the past three city duels all going to the Nerazzurri.
Because the away goals rule no longer exists, the starting position is clear: with a win, a draw or even a defeat with only one goal difference, Inter will be in the Champions League final on 10 June in Istanbul. If Milan manage to pull off a sensation and win by more than two goals, AC will punch their ticket to the final. If Milan win with a two-goal difference, the match will go into extra time and possibly a penalty shoot-out.
