Second match day in the Landesliga Group 2 in the Lower Rhine region: Blau-Weiß Mintard responded to their opening defeat, while FC Kray secured their next victory.
Blau-Weiß Mintard coach Marco Guglielmi had demanded a victory from his team against Oberliga relegation side Mülheimer FC 97 ahead of the game.
And his team followed their coach’s words with actions, winning the derby against MFC 97 4-0. After losing their opening game at SC Werden-Heidhausen, the “Echten Fuffziger” (Real Fifties) turned things around and picked up their first three points. The key to victory was the DJK’s strong fighting spirit. The visitors, who lost their home opener against SG Essen-Schönebeck 0-3, actually put in a decent performance but failed to find the back of the net. The Mintarder, on the other hand, took advantage of the opportunities that came their way and punished every mistake made by their opponents. In the end, the victory was well deserved. Coach Guglielmi was understandably satisfied: “I’m happy for the boys that they were rewarded for their fighting spirit today. The first three points were especially important for our confidence. Unfortunately, there were again a few passages in the game where we made far too many simple mistakes. But we always scored at the right moments. I think we’re on the right track and now we have to build on this victory on Friday in Kray.”
Scherpenberg and Bottrop make their mark
FC Kray also put in a good performance. Once again, it must be said. As in their league opener, FCK won 2-0, this time at SG Schönebeck. After two games, Kray are in first place with four goals and six points. Only GSV Moers (2-0 against Werden-Heidhausen) and Viktoria Goch (2-1 against Sportfreunde Niederwenigern) can also look back on two wins after two rounds.
Behind them, with four points, are teams such as SV Scherpenberg and VfB Bottrop. Both teams are among the hot contenders for promotion to the Oberliga. And on Sunday (August 24), the two favorites showed why they are considered among the top teams.
VfB Bottrop sent 1. FC Lintfort home with a 0-5 defeat, and SV Scherpenberg won 5-2 at VfB Speldorf. ESC Rellinghausen (3-2 against DJK SF Katernberg) and Rhenania Bottrop (2-1 at PSV Wesel-Lackhausen) also secured victories. In short, the second match day saw nine games, nine winners, and no draws!
