Anthony Modeste is not really happy at BVB. Nevertheless, he describes his time with the runners-up as instructive. Now he is looking for a club. His preferred destination remains the Bundesliga.
Anthony Modeste has no regrets about his move from 1. FC Köln to Borussia Dortmund, despite months as a reserve player. “For me, the switch was not a mistake! I learned a lot last season,” the 35-year-old professional footballer told Bild (Thursday).
The goal scorer had been signed by BVB last summer as a one-year replacement for Sébastien Haller, who had testicular cancer, but had mostly had to make do with a place on the bench. “I have been working and learning more about football, teamwork and myself. I played in an elite team,” Modeste commented.
According to him, he did not feel any frustration: “I trained like a starting player and never gave up. I am happy that I got to know the Champions League. I talked a lot about it with my late father and I’m sure he was happy for me in heaven.”
The former Cologne goal-scorer hopes to sign with another club after ending his association with BVB: “At the moment I don’t know what will happen next. But I can say that I am still very motivated and focused and that my goal is to continue playing football. I will be able to play at this level for another two to three years.”
Modeste would like to end his career in the Bundesliga: “I discovered the Bundesliga for myself ten years ago, learned to love it and found great pleasure in it. I like the Bundesliga – it suits my style of play, is intense and stands for beautiful football. For me, it has always been pure pleasure.” The Frenchman does not expect lucrative offers from Saudi Arabia like for Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema: “I won’t receive offers in that category. But these are offers that 99% of players would accept. “
