Despite leading 1-0, SC Wiedenbrück ultimately suffered a 1-3 defeat against Fortuna Cologne. That annoyed coach Sascha Mölders.
SC Wiedenbrück remains in a relegation spot. After the 1-3 defeat against Fortuna Cologne, SCW has eleven points after 14 games. That puts them in third-last place in the Regionalliga West.
The East Westphalians could have achieved more in their home game against Fortuna Cologne at the Jahnstadion. Especially since Wiedenbrück took a 1-0 lead through Aday Ercan (12th minute).
Sascha Mölders was well aware of this. “In the first half, we didn’t let Fortuna get into their good passing game. We fought hard and took the lead from a corner. But then the goals we conceded were far too cheap. We stood around, everyone looked at each other, we couldn’t get a grip on the game. It annoys me that we score these goals ourselves week after week. It upsets me incredibly. After going 1-3 down, it’s obviously incredibly difficult against a top team. In terms of effort, I can’t fault the team,” said Wiedenbrück’s coach.
One team’s misery, in this case SC Wiedenbrück, is another team’s joy, in this case Fortuna Cologne: one streak continued, another ended. With their 3-1 win at the Jahnstadion, Fortuna remained undefeated in the Regionalliga West for the eleventh time in a row and defended their second place in the table. At the same time, coach Matthias Mink’s team managed to score three points against SC Wiedenbrück after two years and four games without a win.
“All in all, it was a deserved victory. At the same time, however, I wasn’t really satisfied with the first half. We didn’t start the game well and conceded 0-1 straight after a set piece. That was annoying. We also didn’t take on the challenges properly at the beginning. Nevertheless, we had our chances, but apart from one scene, we lacked consistency in the box. We then came out of the dressing room much better. But even with the score at 3-1, it wasn’t over yet. It was an intense game with difficult pitch conditions. Wiedenbrück’s style of football is difficult to play against, so we’re very happy with the away win,” said Fortuna coach Matthias Mink, who was delighted with the goals from Enzo Wirtz (40th, 51st) and Timo Bornemann (80th).
