SC 1920 Oberhausen lost the first leg of the deciding round for 15th place in the Lower Rhine District League 5 with 1:3. President Thorsten Möllmann makes a declaration of intent ahead of the second leg.
SC 1920 Oberhausen lost the first leg of the deciding round for 15th place in the Lower Rhine District League 5 against MTV Union Hamborn 3-1. SC president Thorsten Möllmann explains the defeat and makes a challenge for the second leg on Sunday.
“We made too many defensive mistakes. We were the better team,” he told Forecasting. “We missed at least eight hundred percent chances,” he added. According to him, the goals conceded were the result of individual mistakes in defense.
However, he was satisfied with the team’s performance: “I can’t blame the team, we had enough chances. They kept fighting and dominated the game in both halves.”
Möllmann also continues to see the fundamental problems of Oberhausen: “Everything is actually going against us. First of all, the decision by the association that we have to play. Then the game itself: I have to be honest and say that the referee didn’t give a penalty. He assessed the foul situation very, very badly, even with the cards. If he had been consistent, some players would have been sent off earlier,” he raged.
The plan for the second leg is already clear to him: “You can’t even think about it. The team should come on Sunday and get beaten! That means: with fair means, with our footballing possibilities. We have to take our chances to score and then the team will have no chance of winning.”
Above all, however, mentality is crucial here. “You can’t start these deciding games with full pants, you have to be motivated and believe in your strengths. Then your opponents won’t stand a chance.”
For the SC president, victory in the second leg is more or less a foregone conclusion: “They won’t get anything against SC 20. We’ll give it everything we’ve got in terms of fighting and play and won’t concede anything. We’ll play to win and we want to score as many goals as possible. We’ll convert all the chances we didn’t take yesterday if the soccer gods allow us to,” he explained.
He also emphasized the importance of the league once again: “It’s about the Spielclub 20, we need the Bezirksliga. If there’s an Oberhausen and Bottrop group, it’s abnormally interesting. We have to stay in it!”
And once again he tries to motivate his players: “All players who have permission to play for Spielclub 20 on Sunday have to work their asses off. We need players who have a clear head, but who are highly motivated and give everything they’ve got until there’s nothing left!”
I’m telling you, non-relegation is better than promotion and that’s how we’ll celebrate it. I’ll prepare everything so that there’s a real party after the game. They should all take Monday off! Against VfB Bottrop’s promotion party, our non-relegation party will be a real party!”

Now the time has come when there are no more excuses. There is only one game left on the schedule that will decide who stays in the league. “There are no more excuses. If, but, why, we’ve been looking for excuses all season.”
In the event of relegation, which Möllmann expects, the president is planning a celebration: “I’m telling you, not being relegated is better than being promoted and that’s how we’ll celebrate. I will prepare everything so that there is a real party after the game. They should all take Monday off! Against VfB Bottrop’s promotion party, our non-relegation party will be a real party!”
On Sunday, the second leg against MTV Union Hamborn will decide who stays in the league. Kick-off is at 3 p.m. in Oberhausen
