Former child prodigy Youssoufa Moukoko has by no means given up hope of a great soccer career.
“I’ll get out of this, I know it,” said the youngest Bundesliga player in history in an interview with kicker magazine about his recent slump in form. Ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League reunion with Borussia Dortmund (9 p.m./DAZN), the 20-year-old has scored four goals in 20 appearances for FC Copenhagen. “I am my own biggest critic. I know that this is not my level,” said Moukoko, emphasizing: “I know that I will help this team.”
“Everyone probably expected me to go to Denmark and tear up the league, but I had hardly ever played 90 minutes in two years. Then suddenly playing every three days is a big ask at first.“
His time in France helped him a lot on his journey to finding himself. ”Many people won’t understand when I say this, but Nice was the best thing that could have happened to me,” Moukoko said of his loan spell last season.
“In Nice, I learned to be patient, control my emotions, and not point fingers at other people,” Moukoko added: “In Dortmund, it was always the coach’s fault when I didn’t play, but in Nice, I learned to look for the fault in myself before looking at others.”
