Charlton was still the record goal scorer for the Three Lions for years after his career ended – meanwhile Kane has scored the most goals for England.
Record-breaking German international Lothar Matthäus said Charlton had been “like Uwe Seeler for Germany, a role model for all soccer fans in England”. “He was not only a role model on the pitch, but also off it,” the 1990 World Cup winner said.Charlton had died on Saturday at the age of 86.
