MSV and WSV battle it out, flu epidemic causes Kray match to be canceled

MSV Duisburg came out on top against VfB Homberg, while Wuppertaler SV struggled to secure a 2-2 draw in Schermbeck.

There were actually four interesting test matches on Wednesday evening. However, only VfL Bochum (against Bern), MSV Duisburg at VfB Homberg, and Wuppertaler SV at SV Schermbeck actually took to the field.

The match between FC Kray and ETB had to be canceled at short notice. The reason: a flu epidemic at FC Kray, which was unable to field enough players for the city derby.

The games were played in Homberg and Schermbeck instead.

At SVS, Wuppertaler SV took an early lead with a 1-0 (1-0) victory. Vincent Schaub scored the 1-0 for the regional league team after 14 minutes with a well-placed shot from 16 meters. But then the Oberliga team came back stronger. Shawn Kiyau missed the chance to equalize, but Jamal El Mansoury scored the equalizer after 33 minutes. The goal scorer himself won the ball in midfield, played a one-two with Marvin Grumann, and kept his cool in front of goal. Four minutes later, SVS had completely turned the game around. After a nice diagonal ball from Lennart Bollenberg, Kerem Sengün crossed and found Shawn Ismael Akim Kiyau, who scored to make it 2-1.

After the break, it was an even game with one more goal scored. Dildar Atmaca scored the final goal of the game twelve minutes before the end to make it 2-2 for WSV.

MSV makes it clear at VfB Homberg

MSV, who played without Mert Göckan,
Jannik Zahmel, and Moritz Montag (all injured) and Jonas Michelbrink (not in the squad), had a difficult start to their 5-1 victory against the Niederrhein-Oberliga side. However, after 27 minutes, the 1-0 lead was finally secured.
Following a corner from new signing Christian Viet, Joshua Bitter was unmarked in the middle and headed the “Zebras” into the lead, after Homberg had already had two good chances. After going 1-0 up, MSV had the game under control and increased their lead to 2-0 with a dream goal from Patrick Sussek, who fired home from 20 meters out.

After the break and numerous personnel changes, Luca Thissen scored a consolation goal for Homberg in front of 2,000 spectators, before Dennis Borkowski scored twice in the final minutes and Tim Heike made it 5-1.
