MSV Duisburg has been knocked out of the Niederrheinpokal! In the derby in Oberhausen, MSV lost 1:2. Torsten Ziegner was annoyed beyond measure.
“There are no alibis, no excuses,” stressed MSV coach Torsten Ziegner before the Lower Rhine Cup match at Rot-Weiß Oberhausen. After three league defeats in a row, the Zebras wanted to get back on track.
But nothing came of it: Duisburg failed for the third time in a row at a regional league team – in Oberhausen they suffered a deserved 1:2 (0:0) defeat. Aziz Bouhaddouz’s 81st goal came too late, and Marvin Ajani was shown a yellow card just seconds after the restart (46th minute). It was a very poor evening for the third division team, which was also eliminated from the Niederrheinpokal.
Coach Ziegner was correspondingly frustrated after the game: “The victory for Oberhausen was deserved. They were gallant. All in all, it was too little from us. But I don’t want to say too much about the game, I have another thing on my mind. “
When you play for MSV, you have a certain responsibility. That is clearly not enough for me. I will go into more depth with the team in the next few days. The fact that I have the feeling that not everyone is prepared to invest everything – that won’t happen with me.

Then the coach really got going: “I’m totally pissed off! We missed a huge opportunity. Firstly, that we regain reputation with the fans and also that we help the club, which works hard, financially. These are the things that annoy me the most. One thing is certain: we have to change something – internally. When you play for MSV, you have a certain responsibility. That is clearly not enough for me. I’m going to talk to the team in depth over the next few days. The fact that I have the feeling that not everyone is prepared to invest everything – that won’t happen with me. “
First comes Halle, then it’s off to the league leaders
After the international break, the Ziegner team has a home game against Halleschen FC (01 October, 14:00) to set the tone. After nine league games, MSV is three points ahead of HFC. Duisburg must show the right reaction there. The following week (08 October, 2 p.m.), Duisburg are then guests at the leaders of the 3rd division, SV Elversberg.
