The MSV Duisburg U19s won 3-1 at Rot-Weiß Oberhausen. The Meiderich side thus remain unbeaten. Coach Engin Vural was satisfied.
On matchday 4 in the A-Junioren Bundesliga West, Rot-Weiß Oberhausen welcomed MSV Duisburg. The visitors deserved to win the derby 3:1.
Noah Kashama had given the “Zebrass” the lead in the first half and David Wieczorek increased it to 2:0 after the change of ends. Arda Terzi scored the equaliser for Oberhausen and after David Zogu, who had been substituted just 15 minutes earlier, was sent off, the Oberhausen side took heart from the fact that they were outnumbered, but shortly before the final whistle MSV scored the decisive counter-attack through Hamza Anhari to make it 3:1.
MSV coach Engin Vural was more than pleased with his team’s performance. “It was an insanely intense game, but that’s what a ‘Duisburg vs Oberhausen’ derby is by nature,” the 37-year-old said after the match. “I was particularly pleased with the first 40 minutes. We played very maturely and deserved to take the lead. Afterwards, when we were shorthanded, we had to defend a lot of long balls, but the boys did a great job.”
Thanks to the derby win, the Meiderich team now has eight points after four games and is still unbeaten. The coach has a simple explanation for this. “We have a great atmosphere in the team, are extremely hard-working and of course now have a broad chest. But we also know that we have to work hard for everything in the league.”
Before things continue in the league, however, the Duisburg team still has the DFB Cup match against VfL Bochum coming up next Saturday. Vural is already looking forward to this highlight: “This is an absolute privilege for us. I don’t think any of the team has played in the DFB Cup before. We have a home game against brutally strong Bochum, so we’re really looking forward to it. But now we have to regenerate quickly and well before we can take a closer look at the game. “
