Seven quarterfinalists in the Lower Rhine Cup have been determined. The last participant will be decided in the match between VfB Homberg and Rot-Weiß Oberhausen.
On Tuesday, the two regional league teams 1. FC Bocholt and Wuppertaler SV took the lead in the Lower Rhine Cup round of 16. With victories at SSVG Velbert and in Schonnebeck, they were the first teams to advance to the quarterfinals.
Wednesday was then a day for the Oberliga teams, with one exception. Apart from MSV Duisburg, who won 3-1 at KFC Uerdingen, the fifth division teams were among themselves.
And here, 1. FC Kleve, bottom of the Oberliga, failed to gain any new confidence for their battle to avoid relegation. Even an early lead by Dario Gerling and Nermin Badnjevic was not enough against SC St. Tönis, who have been strong recently. St. Tönis came back, equalizing in regular time with goals from Tyler Nkamanyi and Mohamed Hegi, and ultimately won 5-2 after extra time. Niklas Withofs, Julian Andres Suaterna Florez, and Julio Torrens completely turned the game around. VfB Hilden is also in the quarterfinals after a somewhat surprising 2-0 win over Oberliga leaders Ratingen 04/19. Veteran Pascal Weber and Fabian zur Linden shocked Ratingen with their two goals. FC Büderich followed St. Tönis’ example, first equalizing against BW Dingden and then completely turning the game around in extra time. Kevin Weggen scored the goal of the day in the 95th minute to make it 2-1. SV Sonsbeck also advanced to the quarterfinals with a 2-1 win over VfL Jüchen-Garzweiler. Linus Krajac was the man of the match with his brace.
