Within 45 minutes, the third division derby between Rot-Weiss Essen and MSV Duisburg is sold out. But there is massive criticism.
It took just 45 minutes for the tickets to sell out: MSV Duisburg is offering its supporters a rollercoaster ride this season – with more downs than ups. The Zebras are in 18th place in the table eight days before the end of the season and are therefore in the middle of the deepest relegation battle. However, Duisburg can rely on the support of their supporters. The 2,500 tickets for the derby at Rot-Weiss Essen were sold out within 45 minutes.
Not all MSV supporters were able to enjoy tickets. Some vented their displeasure on social media on X and Facebook. The accusations: no online sales, the sale of more than two tickets per person and chaotic ticket distribution.
“Absolute cheek. You stand there for so long and then someone walks out with 30 to 40 tickets.”
“Just so cheeky. The homepage says two tickets per person, not per season ticket or membership card. So how can you sell a whole stack to ONE person? No matter how many season tickets he had in his hand, it’s per person. And we had even called and asked beforehand. Just really antisocial, thanks for nothing. The tickets will probably just be sold on at a high price anyway. “
“Good for everyone who got a ticket. I didn’t have a chance. When you have a job and are a single parent, you can’t stand there for a whole night. And that certainly doesn’t just apply to me. “
“Great action once again. Took time off work and queued for 3.5 hours for Nöppes. So much for the “2 tickets per person” procedure on the website. Maybe next time just think about a different procedure?”
On the homepage of the third division club it said in advance: “Every member or season ticket holder has the opportunity to purchase a maximum of two tickets per person. While stocks last, of course! Approx. 800 standing room tickets are available at a price of 14 euros each (full payer).”
No online pre-sale at MSV Duisburg due to Rot-Weiss Essen
According to press spokesman Martin Haltermann, the fact that the tickets could not be purchased online was not due to MSV: “It was due to Rot-Weiss Essen. If the host club doesn’t offer online sales, then there’s nothing we can do.”
However, there were also MSV supporters who sided with the club: “Guys, what are you asking for? You can’t please everyone. What should the club do? There is a quota and a defined number of tickets. First come, first served. That’s fair, transparent and just the business of life.”
The first desperate ads popped up on eBay classifieds on Thursday afternoon: “Looking for two standing places RWE-MSV in the guest area”. The user is prepared to pay 150 euros for both tickets. The first tickets have already been offered for sale. Price per ticket: 55 euros
