MSV Duisburg suffered a 3-1 defeat to Borussia Mönchengladbach on matchday 9 of the U17 Bundesliga and could slip to a relegation place tomorrow.
MSV Duisburg and Borussia Mönchengladbach started the ninth matchday of the U17 Bundesliga West as teams number three and four. Already on Friday, 1. FC Köln won 3:0 at home against FC Hennef 05. Against Gladbach, who were in good form, MSV had nothing to gain.
The starting position was clear before the match. After a more than strange start to the season, Gladbach had finally caught up before the “autumn break” and seemed to be in really good form. After four draws in a row at the beginning of the season, they recently won against Bayer 04 Leverkusen (2:1) and VfL Bochum (2:0). With two games in hand, Sascha Eickel’s team is now at least in the middle of the table in eighth place and is looking further up the table.
Gladbach take early lead
Totally in contrast to MSV Duisburg, who have to look more in the direction of the relegation places. Most recently, Enoch Moussa gave his team at least some breathing space in the first relegation spot, twelve, with his brace in a 2-1 win over Sportfreunde Siegen. With the win behind them, MSV could have extended their two-point lead over the relegation zone.
But Gladbach underlined their good form early on. Seif Moustafa gave the visitors the lead after only 15 minutes. But MSV stayed in the game and equalised through Mahmud Sahintürk before the break (40th). In the second half, however, it was again the visitors from Mönchengladbach who took the lead. Kilian Sauck completed a penalty kick against MSV keeper Fotios Adamidis to make it 2-1, and shortly before the end substitute Joshua Jong Estrada put the lid on it with his goal to make it 3-1.
Duisburg could slip to a relegation place tomorrow
So MSV will have to keep an anxious eye on the bottom tomorrow as well. In the worst case scenario, the Duisburg side could drop as low as 13th place in the relegation zone.
In the coming week, MSV will play its next groundbreaking match. Preußen Münster welcomes the Zebras (5 November, 11 am). SC Preußen is one point behind the Meiderich team before tomorrow’s match against VfL Bochum. With a win, Marc Auf dem Kamp’s team could gain some breathing space. If MSV loses this game as well, however, things will get tighter and tighter.
