The bottom team in the women’s Bundesliga, MSV Duisburg, has strengthened its squad with an experienced international.
Ten games, no wins and just two points with a goal difference of 6:32 – MSV Duisburg’s women’s record in the Bundesliga is devastating. The Zebra ladies have scored the fewest goals and conceded the most. Nevertheless, they are only four points off the safety zone.
Everything is set to improve in the second half of the season, partly thanks to reinforcements. Like defender Ingibjörg Sigurðardóttir. The 56-time Iceland international has signed a contract with the Meiderich club until the summer of 2024 – the contract will be extended by a further year if the club stays in the league.
The 26-year-old Sigurðardóttir won the Norwegian top flight title with Valerenga Oslo in December 2023.
Thomas Gerstner, head coach, is delighted with the addition to the defense: “Inga is very experienced, an important part of the Icelandic national team and hates to lose. As a central defender, she has what we were looking for. It’s great that she has chosen us and that she will be part of our team from now on!”
Dario Mlodoch, Head of the Women’s Licensing Department, added: “We are delighted to welcome Ingibjörg to MSV. As a player for the Norwegian champions and a permanent fixture in the Icelandic national team, we are convinced that she will strengthen our defense with her qualities and winning mentality.”
Ingibjörg Sigurðardóttir said of her move to the Ruhr: “The philosophy of the club and the city suits me and my personal values very well. I’m really looking forward to the challenge of competing in the Bundesliga. At MSV, I want to get stuck in from day one and support the team on their way to relegation.”
