MSV Duisburg won its away match at SpVgg Bayreuth with 4:0 (1:0). This means that staying in the 3rd division is as good as certain.
At MSV Duisburg, planning for the coming season can gradually be intensified. The Zebras ended their negative streak of eight games without a win, winning 4-0 away at SpVgg Bayreuth. Non-relegation should thus be safe after 34 match days.
In the run-up to the game, the pressure was clearly on the promoted side from Bayreuth, who absolutely had to win in front of their home crowd to keep their chances of a second third league year alive. After the good results against Wiesbaden and Elversberg, the Meiderich side finally wanted to come off the pitch as winners.
Torsten Ziegner changed his lineup in no less than six positions, with the coach making three changes in the back four alone. Leroy Kwadwo, Tobias Fleckstein and Joshua Bitter replaced Marvin Senger, Sebastian Mai (muscular problems) and Rolf Feltscher. In addition, Marvin Knoll replaced Marvin Bakalorz on the double six alongside Niclas Stierlin, for whom Caspar Jander had to take a seat on the bench. Benjamin Girth was the lone striker for Julian Hettwer.
However, the Altstädter got off to the better start. Eroll Zejnullahu scored from a free kick after just a few minutes to take the lead, but referee Alexander Sather disallowed the goal. The execution of the ball was too fast for the referee. Luckily for the Duisburg team, who then had reason to celebrate. As on Tuesday, Marvin Ajani crossed into the sixteen from the right with pinpoint accuracy. Niklas Kölle was lurking at the second post and slid in expertly (7.). For the left winger it was the third goal of the season and the second in five days.
After that, the battle on the bumpy turf at Hans-Walter-Wild-Stadion was largely neutralized. In a first half with few chances, the hosts had the equalizer twice on the foot. Markus Ziereis missed the best chance from a few meters in front of Vincent Müller (16.). A header by Alexander Nollenberger was also almost dangerous (40.), while the Zebras lurked on the counterattack and left one of them through Kölle carelessly.
After the break, the home side took more risks, as expected, but the MSV defense had the SpVgg offense well under control and struck again through Kölle. By chance, the ball landed with the double goal scorer, who had an easy game from close range. The 600 MSV fans had reason to celebrate until the final whistle and sang “Oh, how beautiful it is”. Just three minutes after his substitution, Hettwer kept his cool in a one-on-one with Luca Petzold and put the ball past the Bayreuth keeper for 3:0. A beam from Feltscher ensured the final decision (76.). Bakir hit the crossbar (80.).
Duisburg moved up to twelfth place and are now eleven points ahead of the first relegation spot. On Friday evening (7 p.m.), the Schauinsland-Reisen-Arena will see a reunion with former coach Pavel Dotchev, when FC Erzgebirge Aue are the guests.
