MSV Duisburg are looking for new strikers. The club may even find something before the transfer window opens.
With Moritz Stoppelkamp (Rot-Weiß Oberhausen), Julian Hettwer (BVB II) and Aziz Bouhaddouz (FSV Frankfurt), third division club MSV Duisburg lost three attacking players in the summer.
New signings include Pascal Köpke (1. FC Nürnberg), Alexander Esswein (SV Sandhausen), Thomas Pledl (Waldhof Mannheim), Robin Müller (FC St. Pauli II) and Tim Köther (1. FC Heidenheim).
On paper, it didn’t look bad, with the transfers of Esswein, Köpke and Pledl in particular attracting attention. But things turned out completely differently. Pledl and Köpke were out for a long time, Köther was also injured recently and Esswein has not yet been able to show why he was signed.
The disastrous result is therefore currently: 14 games, one win, bottom of the table. No wonder that with only nine goals scored, the worst figure of all 20 teams, the search is on for new attacking players. Without new additions, the Zebras are threatened with relegation to the Regionalliga West.
A potential candidate for the so far meagre attack, who could also be signed before the transfer window opens in winter, is currently in training, MSV confirmed on Wednesday evening.
