On Saturday (2pm), MSV Duisburg will play at home against SV Meppen. A win would bring calm in the relegation battle.
MSV Duisburg is not yet completely secured in the 3rd division. After the 0:2 at SC Freiburg, the gap to the first relegation place is eight points.
With a home win on Saturday (2 p.m.) against SV Meppen, the Zebras could make a big leap towards staying in the relegation zone early. And even though MSV are not a power in their own stadium this season.
Who do you want to win against at home, if not Meppen? Coach Stefan Krämer’s team is in last place and has yet to win an away game this season.
MSV coach Torsten Ziegner stresses before the 90 minutes. “In the 3rd division, there is no fundamentally different constellation at home or away. For Meppen, the game at our place will certainly also be an experience, which motivates an opponent to play here in the stadium. But we also showed what is possible here in the last home game against Zwickau. “
Ziegner will have to do without defender Sebastian Mai and Marvin Knoll against Meppen. In contrast, attacker Benjamin Girth is available again. This is an important factor, as MSV have recently found it very difficult to score goals of their own. Ziegner: “He is back at full strength. If that is confirmed by the weekend, he will be in the squad. Whether from the start or as a mega option if the score requires it, we’ll see.”
The coach is particularly sorry about Mai’s absence: “It’s bitter news for him and for us. He was in good shape and did the team a lot of good. But we also showed against RWE and Zwickau that we can be stable without him.”
Which will be the basis against Meppen. An opponent the MSV coach warns against: “That will be a completely different task to Freiburg. I expect us to have a lot of possession against a stable Meppen defence. Meppen will tear themselves apart, they’ll be on our socks, but they won’t just be destructive.”
After all, even Meppen, in last place, can jump off the relegation zone with a win if the competition plays along. Ziegner: “The situation in the bottom of the table is really very tight. The constellation can change every week.”
In order not to slip further down the table themselves, a confirmation of the last MSV home game would therefore be all the more important for the Zebras to have some peace afterwards.
