A major setback for MSV Duisburg at the start of the new year: according to media reports, top talent Caspar Jander is set to leave.
According to media reports, Caspar Jander (20), midfielder of the third-tier soccer team MSV Duisburg, is about to join the second-division team 1. FC Nürnberg. The contract is expected to be signed in the coming days. This was reported by the Kieler Nachrichten on New Year’s Day. Holstein Kiel had also recently shown interest in the 20-year-old, according to reports.
Caspar Jander’s contract with MSV expires in the summer. The U-20 national player could then move on a free transfer. A contract extension at MSV is considered unrealistic. According to media reports, however, it is unclear whether Jander will move to the Noris Stadium now or will not wear the club jersey until next season. Even if MSV Duisburg wants to invest money in new players during the winter transfer window, the loss of Jander would be a blow in the fight against relegation, as the team would lose quality.
MSV Duisburg also lost Julian Hettwer in the summer
The Meiderich-based club has been here before: in the summer, MSV sold talent Julian Hettwer to Borussia Dortmund. Hettwer plays for BVB’s U23 team in the third division. Although the Duisburgers received a transfer fee, they lost an important offensive player. Added to this was the departure of veteran Moritz Stoppelkamp – the MSV was unable to compensate for all this in its offensive department.
On December 19, MSV president Ingo Wald stated at a press conference that he was not aware of any offers for Caspar Jander. At the same time, MSV coach Boris Schommers confirmed that he assumed that Jander would continue to play for MSV in the second half of the season. However, the 44-year-old has no illusions that the native of Münster could stay in Duisburg beyond the summer.
MSV Duisburg resumes training on Wednesday
MSV Duisburg resumes training after the short Christmas break on Wednesday, January 3, at 3 p.m. at the club’s grounds on Westender Straße. By the way: Caspar Jander will not be at the starting line for any club on the first match day after the winter break. He received his fifth yellow card in MSV’s 4-2 win over SC Freiburg II and is suspended for the next game.
