While Rot-Weiss Essen and MSV Duisburg kick off the third division round this weekend, two talents from these local clubs will be able to show themselves in Turkey.
An invitation to play for the national team is always something special: two talented players from MSV Duisburg and Rot-Weiss Essen have also been given this honor in recent days.
MSV U19 goalscorer Kaan Inanoglu and RWE U19 right-back Berkant Gedikli were allowed to take part in a training course for the Turkish U19 national team in Antalya. Over the course of a week, the talented youngsters from the region showed their best side and earned high praise.
“Both left a very good impression and will remain an integral part of the team for the European Championships,” Soykan Basar, coach of Turkey’s U19 national team, told Forecasting. The U19 European Championship in Croatia is on the agenda in March. Turkey’s U19s will play in a group against Germany, Croatia and Romania.
Gedikli, who played 70 minutes, and Kaan Inanoglu, who played 77 minutes, impressed in a friendly against Jordan’s U20s on Friday (January 19). Inanoglu scored the final goal in the Turks’ 3-0 victory
Basar, who once coached current Turkey stars such as Arda Güler (Real Madrid) and Kenan Yilmaz (Juventus Turin) – both born in 2005 – in the junior national team, thinks highly of MSV attacker Inanoglu, who is still waiting for his debut with the professionals.
Basar: “Kaan is a very mobile striker who has impressed us throughout training with his commitment, will and goal-scoring instinct and confirmed this in the game against Jordan with a very nice goal.”
Essen’s Gedikli was similarly strong during the week of the training course. Basar: “Berkant has really fitted into the team, even though he’s only just joined. We were also very impressed with him during the training sessions. He’s a very calm and ruthless player who also likes to go deep and create goals.”
These words will be eagerly heard at Hafenstrasse in Essen, where Gedikli has yet to play a single third division minute
