“Münster is an interested party, but there are some options”.

Wuppertaler SV are playing a good season despite their shattered promotion dreams and Niederrheinpokal exit. One man has played a big part in that.

21 games, 15 goals, seven assists: Serhat-Semih Güler is playing the best season of his career. In the jersey of Wuppertaler SV, the 25-year-old striker confirms his past strong season, in which he contributed 14 goals and four assists for Regionalliga West relegated Bonner SC.

In short: Two Regionalliga seasons and almost 30 goals: These figures make an attacker very attractive on the transfer market. Güler’s contract with Wuppertaler SV expires at the end of the season. An extension seems almost out of the question. Güler will probably move to the 3rd League. The only question is: where?

RevierSport spoke to the German-Turkish player, who is at home in Cologne, about his future.

Serhat-Semih Güler, when RevierSport last spoke to you, you were still full of beans and in attack mode. Now it should be clear that the WSV will no longer be promoted. Why?

We dropped a lot of points at the beginning of the season and simply fucked it up. That’s why we’ve been running behind Münster the whole time and couldn’t get any closer when we won ten out of eleven games in a phase before the turn of the year. And now Preußen Münster have also won ten games in a row. You can only take your hat off to this strength and their consistency. They are highly deserving of promotion.

And then you go to Münster after this season to play in the 3rd Division with Preußen…

(laughs) Let’s see. Münster is interested, but there are a few options. The news about Preußen leaked out and I can confirm that there is contact. But that’s all. Because nothing more has happened. There are a few clubs from the 3rd league and regional league, but also from Turkey, who are interested in me. I can reveal that here. I hope that a decision will be made in April.

Does that rule out staying in Wuppertal?

No. The WSV will always remain my contact. And at this point in time, I haven’t turned down Wuppertal yet. But we’re playing with an open hand: Stephan Küsters, with whom I have a great relationship, also knows that it will be difficult to keep me in Wuppertal. I’m no longer 18 years old, I’m 25. Now I have to see what’s best for me. And the next step should be the 3rd league. Of course, finances also play a role. I don’t have that many years left, so I have to see where I stay.

Recently you failed to score three times in a row. Is that also due to your uncertain future?

I have to be honest and say that this is also very strange for me and it feels like half an eternity. I don’t even know this feeling any more, that I don’t score a goal for three or four games. Maybe my question about the future also plays a role in my subconscious. That’s all human, we’re not machines after all. And of course I often think about my future. I hope that it will soon be clarified.
