Preußen Münster turned the game around at Waldhof Mannheim, but had to settle for a point after a dream goal.
After the emotional victory against Rot-Weiss Essen (2:1), Preußen Münster wanted to follow up in the 3rd division at Waldhof Mannheim. But the endeavor only partially worked out. After 90 minutes, the score was 2:2 0:1).
The result: Mannheim was unable to exert any real pressure on MSV Duisburg in the form of a win before the Zebra home game against Jahn Regensburg starting at 7:30 p.m.
Before the game, Münster’s coach Sascha Hildmann spoke of Mannheim as a bag of surprises, after they only recently changed coaches and signed several players at the last minute.
A few weeks earlier, Terrence Boyd had already arrived, and he took the first real chance of the game after just 11 minutes – much to the delight of new coach Marco Antwerpen, who had surely imagined the game starting like this. However, the 1-0 only lasted 13 minutes, because then Niko Koulis was able to score to make it 1-1. It remained a draw until half-time.
After the break, Mannheim had the first two big opportunities. But first, winter signing Kevin Goden (from 1. FC Düren) failed against SCP keeper Maximilian Schulze-Niehues, then Boyd shot over the goal from four meters. Now the hosts, who missed the next big chance shortly after the double chance, pushed. Boyd was completely unmarked from six meters to head the ball, but he put it in the wrong place (54.).
That was also the wake-up call for Münster, who had their good scenes afterwards. But substitute Gerrit Wegkamp twice missed the 2-1 for the guests from a promising position.
But then the equalizer did come. First substitute Shaibou Oubeyapwa hammered the ball against the crossbar. On the subsequent cross, Wegkamp headed in the ball to give Münster the lead. But Mannheim had an answer ready. And what a reply. Substitute Marcel Seegert received the ball 30 meters from goal and his shot hit the left-hand corner and was impossible to save – 2:2. The score remained the same, and Münster can certainly live with the point better than Mannheim.
Mannheim will be in action again on Saturday (February 10, 2 p.m.) when they travel to SSV Ulm. Preußen Münster will play at home against SV Sandhausen at the same time.
