Schalke coach Miron Muslic sings a cult song from the S04 stands, which is celebrated by the fans. He also talks about a possible departure.
After winning games, Miron Muslic can regularly be seen jumping up and down among his players. The FC Schalke 04 coach clearly enjoys these moments in front of the fan stand. For him, it’s all part of the job. “Performance comes first, but when there’s something to celebrate, we celebrate,” he said in an interview with pay-TV channel Sky ahead of this Friday’s home game against Darmstadt 98 (6:30 p.m./Sky).
Just five months after taking office in Gelsenkirchen, the 43-year-old Austrian is already remarkably familiar with the royal blue songbook. In the interview, he first completes the lyrics of the fan chant “Wir sind Schalker, asoziale Schalker” (We are Schalke, anti-social Schalke) and then sings his favorite Schalke song: the tribute to the Eurofighters of 1997. With a smile on his face, Muslic then sings and claps along: “We beat Roda, we beat Trabzon, we beat Bruges anyway – Valencia, Tenerife, Inter Milan, that was quite a show.”
Excerpts from the interview are making the rounds on social media and are very well received by fans.
Among other things, Muslic’s passion, the coach’s identification with S04, and his authenticity are praised. Miron Muslic is under contract with the Royal Blues until the summer of 2027.
However, due to an exit clause, he could leave Schalke for a mid-single-digit million euro sum (the exact transfer fee varies depending on the league and the success of the acquiring club).
However, the S04 coach dismisses concerns about a quick departure. “I’m taking it in stride,” he says. “99.9 percent of the people who are giving him the thumbs up said a few months ago, ‘Who is this guy? Where did they find him?’ That didn’t blow me away back then. It’s not blowing me away now either. I’m still clear-headed and still fully committed to the task at hand. My task is Schalke 04.”
