Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann has highlighted the strong performance of recently criticised international footballer Leroy Sane in the 7-0 (4-0) win at VfL Bochum.
“He got himself out of his own crisis a bit and put in a super performance,” said Nagelsmann: “He is a player who always polarises a bit because of his nature. When he’s 100 per cent up for it, he’s one of the best players in Europe.”
Sane’s fourth-minute goal had opened the scoring for Munich, who have improved their own Bundesliga starting record from the 2012/13 treble season after three matchdays. Sane, who had come off the bench in each of the first two games, showed tremendous spirit in Bochum even after his goal.
“He has all the skills, that technique coupled with the speed,” praised his coach. Nagelsmann went on to explain, “It’s always important to me that Leroy also does the talent-free actions, i.e. sprinting after and getting the ball.” If you “leave him alone a bit and give him a bit of confidence, he has outstanding skills,” said the Bayern coach.
