Sportfreunde Siegen have had a successful few weeks. After fears of a difficult second half of the season, the Westfalen-Oberliga club can breathe a sigh of relief two months later.
Thorsten Nehrbauer, coach of Sportfreunde Siegen, had feared a difficult second half of the season in the Oberliga Westfalen. However, the Siegen side came out of the winter break really well under Nehrbauer’s management, losing just one of their last nine games. This compares to three wins and five draws.
The 3:1 win against leaders ASC 09 Dortmund was a particularly impressive result. With 30 points, Siegen are now ninth in the table and have nothing to do with the relegation places.
A great feeling for the coach, who has been in office since October 2 and has put Sportfreunde on the road to success: “We’ve worked hard for this feeling and now we don’t want to stop. The aim is to crack the 40-point mark as quickly as possible and preferably finish the season in a single-digit place. That is currently a more than realistic goal.”
But why exactly has the team changed since Nehrbauer’s arrival? What was the secret recipe? The coach answers: “First and foremost, hard work. I am also a big reason for this, but I have to say that we have a very adaptive team. We’re no longer satisfied with just winning, we want more and more. The will to win has become much stronger. “
I always tell my boys that we must never be the little mouse in front of the big snake. We want to pick up the next three points and we want to do that in every game

Nehrbauer continued: “The young players are also finding their feet better and better in the strong Oberliga Westfalen. There’s also Markus Pazurek, who acts as my extended arm on the pitch but is unfortunately out injured at the moment. All in all, we’ve found a good mix, but it’s still a long way from what we want.”
Sportfreunde Siegen now face a special match. The team from Siegen will travel to SG Wattenscheid 09 at the Lohrheide Stadium. A highlight of the season for Nehrbauer and Co.: “It’s always nice when two traditional clubs meet. It promises to be a great atmosphere. We’re up against a strong team that has managed to free itself a little from the hole at the bottom. A nice task that we can look forward to.”
However, the hungry team from Siegen has a clear roadmap: “I always tell my boys that we must never be the little mouse in front of the big snake. We want to pick up the next three points and do so in every game,” said Nehrbauer.
