Moritz Jenz is Schalke’s guarantee of success in the second half of the season. In an interview, he now explained why he fell in love with S04, believes in staying in the league and wants to stay at Schalke.
Moritz Jenz has been something of a life insurance policy for FC Schalke 04 this season. Since his move to Gelsenkirchen in January, S04 has not lost a game in which the center back has played.
In the nine games in which he has played, there have been three wins and six draws. Jenz was forced to miss the only two second-round defeats against Bayer Leverkusen and TSG Hoffenheim due to injury.
If this streak continues after Schalke’s away game at SC Freiburg on Sunday, the chances of staying in the league will increase further. In an interview with Sport1, the 23-year-old has now stated that he could imagine staying with the Knappen even in the event of relegation. “I don’t rule that out,” Jenz said. But he would not waste any thought on that right now. He added that the FC Lorient loanee wants to stay in the league with Schalke and also believes that he will succeed: “I wish to stay with Schalke. I want to play with Schalke in the 1st division. “
At the same time, a purchase obligation of four million euros probably only applies if Schalke stays in the league. It is hard to imagine that Schalke would be able to raise this sum even in the event of relegation. “
But I have to say that I have never fallen in love with a club as quickly as I have with Schalke.

Why things are going so well, he can’t really explain himself. “I just do my best, like to take the reins, organize and communicate. We’re just doing well as a team at the moment. Everyone is throwing themselves in for each other. That’s maybe our secret.”
He explained his emotional Instagram post (“S04, I love you S04!”) after the home win against Bremen this way: “As a kid, I was a Hertha fan. Of course I had to root for the local club. It would have been strange if I had been a Bayern fan. But I have to say that I’ve never fallen in love with a club as quickly as I did with Schalke.” He said he was in exactly the right place in Gelsenkirchen. “I feel at home here for the first time in a long time and I’m very proud that I play for this great club. I wanted to show that to the fans with the post. Schalke is a perfect fit for me and my style of play.”
However, he attributed the improvement in the second half of the season not to himself but to Schalke’s coach Thomas Reis. He welded the team together and got it on track. Nevertheless, the remaining program is of course difficult. “The program is crunchy. Our series and the game against Hertha give me hope. I am confident. We have to be aggressive, play with dedication and throw everything in. Against none of these opponents will we hide! We have to take the fight to them. Then I’m confident we’ll stay in,” said Jenz. And there wouldn’t be much standing in the way of us staying at Schalke.
